Why I Like Blogging

A week from now I’ll be a day away from summer vacation (like for reals this time since I’m still not working)! The final project for my workshop class is to revise one of the pieces that I turned in over the semester for critique. As part of this project we have to share in class tonight what we struggle with when it comes to the proess of revision. My list is endless and boring and I won’t bother to note it here.

But one thing I did discover while contemplating the horror that is revision, is why I like blogging as a writing medium. See, when I write here I can give short bursts of information or somewhat thoughtful anecdotes, but I never have to contemplate earned emotions or character motivation or whether I completely suck. I can just write and post. No hours of re-reading, re-writing. No expectations. Sure, I want people to like what I write on here, but it doesn’t matter so much. What it is, is easy, when fiction writing is really, really hard.

It’s kind of like after you watch all the academy award nominees in a row and you’re so burnt out, and even though they were all great and interesting, thinking about them makes your brain hurt. And then you watch Tommy Boy and it just feels so good and you don’t have to try to understand it and it’s just fun.
